Hi, I'm Jin (he/they)!

I dream of walking the alien deserts of Mars. I believe that building a sustainable, just society on Earth goes hand-in-hand with the exploration of space. Making humanity interplanetary is important enough to me that it made me decide to leave my home country, Malaysia, for Canada at the age of 15.

Currently, I'm a Master's research student at Western University's Institute for Earth and Space Exploration, supervised by Dr. Jayshri Sabarinathan in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. I'm working on space qualification for lunar multi-spectral imagers, specializing in thermal and structural analysis.

My background:
  • MESc (thesis), Electrical Engineering with a Collaborative Specialization in Planetary Sciences, Western University (2021-present)
  • BASc with Distinction and Graduation Dean's Honor List, Mechanical Engineering, University of Waterloo (2016-2021)

Other things I'm up to:
  • Chief Diversity Officer and Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors at the Mars Society of Canada (check out my writing for our Marslog!)
  • President (former Treasurer) for the Western Space Graduate Council
Ask me about what I do as the:
  • SpaceKind Chief Operating Officer and ambassador
  • Organizer for the Space JEDI* Council
  • Co-organizer for the 2022 Space Exploration Conference (#SpaceEx2022,) in partnership with Space Concordia, the Mars Society of Canada, and the European Space Agency
